CERTIFIED ORGANIC WOOL

The benefits of organic wool’s complex and natural physicochemical structure are endless: it wicks away moisture from hot sleepers, keeps your mattress smelling fresh, and acts as an additional all-natural fire barrier. It’s breathable — both warm and cool when you need it. Its natural crimp gives it bounce, body, and soft support characteristics. It’s also non-allergenic (ideal for those who suffer from allergies to feather and down or synthetic bedding products) and a renewable resource. No additives or synthetics are added to the wool. At Avocado, we use two layers of pure, naturally crimped GOTS-certified organic wool (CU 863637), sandwiched over a layer of premium natural alpaca from South America. We do not blend rayon, polyester, or flame retarding chemicals with our wool or alpaca. Our organically grown wool is independently certified to the Responsible Wool Standard by Textile Exchange.

CERTIFIED ORGANIC COTTON

For a luxurious and premium finish, we use GOTS-certified organic cotton (CU863637) in a soft, natural color blended with 3% elastane for functional stretch and enhanced durability—fully compliant with GOTS standards. This fabric is quilted over a generous layer of organic wool, supported by a thin, non-woven backing—added in accordance with GOTS accessory requirements—to prevent the wool from shifting or clumping and to keep natural fibers from working through the outer cotton over time. Responsibly and ethically sourced from India, this durable textile is needle-tufted by hand using organic cotton yarn rosettes. These secure the cotton ticking and internal mattress layers without chemical or water-based adhesives. Reinforced edge seams are double-stitched for added durability, and four heavy-duty upholstered handles make the mattress easy to rotate or move. Organic cotton complements the wool comfort layers, ensuring this mattress sleeps cool without synthetic fabrics or flame retardants.

ERGONOMIC BACK SUPPORT

The Avocado Wool Mattress features one of the most advanced, pressure-point support systems available, combining two coil layers for elevated comfort and ergonomic performance. The mattress includes a 1-inch layer of individually wrapped microcoils in the comfort layer for added responsiveness and breathability, paired with a base unit of up to 1,379 (King) individually wrapped coils arranged in five ergonomic zones to support hips, back, and shoulders. A reinforced steel perimeter ensures consistent edge support across the bed.

Both coil layers float independently within a food-grade polypropylene fabric (non-woven and non-toxic) to enhance airflow, provide targeted support, and maintain proper spinal alignment. The coils are assembled using a safe, environmentally conscious adhesive composed of tested components (Waxes: CAS 8002-74-2, Resin: CAS 8050-26-8, Antioxidant: CAS 6683-19-8, EVA Polymer: CAS 24937-78-8).

The support unit uses three wire gauges: 16 gauge (narrow diameter) perimeter coils in the reinforced sides and header/footer zones; 15 gauge coils through the center third; and 14 gauge (larger diameter) coils on both sides of the center section (in the shoulder and hip zones, to accommodate regular rotation). Made from heat-treated, stress-relieved, and upcycled steel — and manufactured by Avocado — these coils offer firm support and pressure-point relief over the long term.

The entire innerspring system — including both the microcoil and support layers — meets OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100, EWG Verified®, MADE SAFE®, GREENGUARD Gold, and Formaldehyde-Free Claim Verification standards, ensuring adherence to the highest environmental and human health benchmarks. Together, the microcoil comfort layer and innerspring base offer the support and breathability customers expect from the best latex-free innerspring mattresses.

COOLING MATTRESS DESIGN

The Avocado Wool Mattress is naturally breathable by design — no synthetic foams, no temperature-trapping latex. Instead, it relies on the inherent thermoregulating properties of GOTS-certified organic wool, which wicks away moisture and heat to help maintain a stable and comfortable sleep climate year-round. The use of individually wrapped microcoils and a zoned innerspring base further enhances airflow throughout the mattress, minimizing heat retention and promoting cooler, deeper rest. As a cooling wool mattress without latex or memory foam, it's an ideal solution for hot sleepers seeking a more breathable and sustainable sleep surface.

NO FLAME RETARDANTS

As a natural wool mattress, this design meets flammability standards without chemicals — a safer choice for eco-conscious sleepers. The Avocado Green Mattress uses only GOTS-certified organic wool, which is naturally fire-resistant. Our organic wool has also been tested for harmful substances and meets OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 (24.HUS.86422).

TESTED FOR PFAS CHEMICALS

PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a group of man-made chemicals used in various industries worldwide. Known for their persistence in the environment and the human body, they are often referred to as "forever chemicals." At Avocado, we're committed to ensuring our products are free from harmful levels of PFAS. Our mattresses have been rigorously tested using advanced techniques, including Liquid Chromatography/Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) analysis and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis, for 241 PFAS substances. This testing method is superior to generic organic fluorine screening tests, which can often be inaccurate and fail to detect specific PFAS compounds. Test results indicate that our mattress materials contain no detectable amounts of PFAS. That makes this one of the safest natural mattresses for sensitive sleepers, babies, and anyone avoiding PFAS and chemical exposure.

Foundations, bunkie boards, bed frames, and adjustable bases purchased from third-party vendors (not purchased from Avocado) must meet the minimum structural requirements outlined in our warranty.

Your 1-Year Avocado Wool Mattress trial begins after you receive your mattress and is limited to one mattress per household, subject to a minimum of 30 days, as outlined in our policy terms and conditions. Shipping and in-home delivery & setup fees are non-refundable. Returned mattresses incur a $99 fee.
