PERFORATED CERTIFIED ORGANIC LATEX

We use FSC® certified (FSC-C156318) Dunlop latex in our Extra-Firm Mattress. Our GOLS-certified organic latex (CU 863637) is sourced from co-owned farmer societies and processing facilities in India and Guatemala, operating under the USDA’s National Organic Program. The latex contains 95% or more certified organic content—the highest standard—and is processed in GOLS-certified organic facilities.

For this mattress, we use D65 Dunlop latex, a medium-firm density chosen to provide responsive comfort while complementing the ultra-supportive coil and coconut structure beneath. No chemical adhesives are used to bind the layers—our mattress is needle-tufted by hand. This perforated and ventilated latex is eco-INSTITUT® label certified  (119-34212-001), confirming it meets the strictest standards for low emissions and pollutants.

CERTIFIED ORGANIC WOOL

The benefits of organic wool’s complex and natural physicochemical structure are endless: it wicks away moisture from hot sleepers, keeps your mattress smelling fresh, and acts as an additional all-natural fire barrier. It’s breathable — both warm and cool when you need it. Its natural crimp gives it bounce, body, and soft support characteristics. It’s also non-allergenic (ideal for those who suffer from allergies to feather and down or synthetic bedding products) and a renewable resource. No additives or synthetics are added to the wool. At Avocado, we add a layer of pure, naturally crimped GOTS-certified organic wool (CU 863637) (1 ounce per square foot) beneath the organic-certified cotton ticking in every mattress. We do not blend rayon, polyester, or flame retarding chemicals with our wool. Our organically grown wool is independently certified to the Responsible Wool Standard by Textile Exchange.

CERTIFIED ORGANIC COTTON

For a luxurious and premium finish, we use GOTS-certified organic cotton (CU863637) in a soft, natural color blended with 3% elastane for functional stretch and enhanced durability—fully compliant with GOTS standards. This fabric is quilted over a generous layer of organic wool, supported by a thin, non-woven backing—added in accordance with GOTS accessory requirements—to prevent the wool from shifting or clumping and to keep natural fibers from working through the outer cotton over time. Responsibly and ethically sourced from India, this durable textile is hand-needle-tufted using organic wool yarn rosettes. These secure the cotton ticking and internal mattress layers without chemical or water-based adhesives. Reinforced edge seams are double-stitched for added durability, and four heavy-duty upholstered handles make the mattress easy to rotate or move. Organic cotton complements the wool comfort layers, ensuring this mattress sleeps cool without synthetic fabrics or flame retardants.

The Avocado Extra Firm Mattress features a purpose-built, heavy-duty support system that delivers exceptional firmness, pressure relief, and long-term durability. Rather than relying on thick synthetic foam layers, this mattress features a dual-coil construction separated by natural coconut fiber pads, designed to meet the needs of heavier sleepers, big and tall individuals, athletes, or anyone who prefers an ultra-supportive mattress.

The mattress includes two 3-inch layers of individually wrapped, heavy-gauge coils, each floating independently within a food-grade, non-toxic, non-woven polypropylene fabric. These double-tempered recycled steel coils are 25% stronger than industry standard, providing a firm, responsive sleep surface that resists sagging and maintains spinal alignment, even under greater weight and pressure.

Between each coil unit is a 0.5-inch layer of organic coconut fiber infused with organic latex, which enhances firmness, limits motion transfer, and increases airflow for cool, dry sleep. This dense, natural material also serves as a supportive buffer, reinforcing the entire structure without the need for glue or synthetic foam.

The coils are assembled using an environmentally conscious adhesive composed of tested components (Waxes: CAS 8002-74-2, Resin: CAS 8050-26-8, Antioxidant: CAS 6683-19-8, EVA Polymer: CAS 24937-78-8). They are needle-tufted by hand with up to 9 wool rosettes, eliminating the need for chemical flame retardants or glues between layers.

TESTED FOR PFAS CHEMICALS

PFAS (Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) are a group of man-made chemicals used in various industries worldwide. Known for their persistence in the environment and the human body, they are often referred to as "forever chemicals." At Avocado, we're committed to ensuring our products are free from harmful levels of PFAS. Our mattresses have been rigorously tested using advanced techniques, including Liquid Chromatography/Tandem Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS/MS) analysis and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS) analysis, for 241 PFAS substances. This testing method is superior to generic organic fluorine screening tests, which can often be inaccurate and fail to detect specific PFAS compounds. Test results indicate that our mattress materials contain no detectable amounts of PFAS. Years 1 - 10: Full coverage, Non-Prorated. Years 11 - 25: Limited Coverage, Prorated. To maintain structural integrity and ensure warranty coverage, the Extra Firm Mattress must be used on a properly designed support system. All Avocado foundations, bunkie boards, bed frames, and adjustable bases meet these requirements when used correctly and unaltered. If using a third-party bed frame, it must include a rigid center support beam with at least one leg extending to the floor for queen-size beds and larger. We strongly recommend pairing this mattress with a heavy-duty foundation designed for higher weight capacities to prevent sagging and extend the mattress's lifespan.

1-YEAR SLEEP TRIAL

Your 1-Year Avocado Extra Firm Mattress trial begins after you receive your mattress and is limited to one mattress per household, subject to a minimum of 30 days, as outlined in our Terms and Conditions. However, if you're a side sleeper or need extra pressure relief at the shoulders and hips, this mattress may feel too firm. In those cases, we recommend layering with an organic latex topper for added contouring or exploring one of our medium-firm models.
